Steve has 30 years experience in the construction industry. In 1985 Steve became the owner of Sun Construction & Design Services, Inc. As CEO, he provides long range planning and maintains key relationships with clients. Steve’s philosophy is that the most successful construction projects are those that fulfill the client’s needs. This is one reason why over 90% of Sun’s customers become repeat clients. Steve’s community and charitable organization involvement have provided him the opportunity to utilize the resources of Sun Construction to aid numerous worthy causes.

Bill Prout
Vice President/General Manager
Years of Experience: 39
Bill has been involved with project management and controls for his entire career since receiving a degree in Construction Management from Colorado State University. His project experience ranges from small jobs for standing order clients to very large projects valued to $250 million. Bill assists in the day-to-day operation of Sun Construction, while maintaining project manager responsibilities on specific projects. Additionally, Bill adds strength and experience to our pre-construction services where he provides guidance in budget estimating; preliminary scheduling; constructability reviews; value engineering and guaranteed maximum price development for design-build projects.

Tim Strong
Executive Vice President

Tim’s responsibilities through the years with the company have grown and changed as the needs have arisen. Tim’s experience with mid to high-level tenant finish jobs has brought back many valued customers. He understands the needs of value and quality and strives for the customers input on a continual basis in order to achieve the final goal. Communication is a strong skill Tim possesses and he beliefs that communication is the key to a successful project. Tim’s Project Manager experience allows him to work on multiple projects ranging from high-tech facilities maintenance; pharmaceutical offices and labs; higher education campus projects; ground-up construction; design build projects and tenant finish build-outs.

Andy Welch
Vice President of Operations
Years of Experience: 14
Andy started his career in construction as an apprentice before serving as a
carpenter and superintendent. He has worked in management of Sun since 1999.
Currently he fills the role of Vice President of Operations. From starting as an
interior finish apprentice in residential construction, Andy made the move to
commercial construction where he has been responsible for all carpentry and
supervisory levels of construction. In his current capacity Andy handles hiring
and various other aspects of human resources. Andy is also the company Safety
Manager and lead trainer for O.S.H.A. 10 and 30 hour courses. His position as
Vice President of Operations requires his overseeing labor and personnel issues,
office and fleet management, policy implementation, fleet and equipment
management, quality control, contracts, safety, risk assessment and training.

Scott Solem
Project Manager
Years of Experience: 30
Scott’s construction career began in 1977 as a laborer/apprentice carpenter in Minot, North Dakota. In 1984 he relocated to Longmont, Colorado and took a position with Sun Construction as a carpenter and advanced to the position of Supervisor and was the site supervisor at Storage Technology. In 1991 he took a position with Storage Technology as a Project Administrator. From 1998 until early 2006 Scott operated his own company. Scott has dedicated a large part of his career to serving the high tech sector and clients with multi-building campuses. Scott’s project portfolio consists of variety of renovations ranging from office to manufacturing. His experience serving on both the side of the Owner and the side of the General Contractor provides valuable insight to the Owner/Contractor relationship, as well as helping us establish and meet client expectations.

Christopher J. Cravens
Project Manager
Years of Experience: 20
Chris started in construction in 1988 in his hometown of Peoria, Illinois, and worked primarily in the painting industry. He worked for a number of painting contractors and eventually ended up managing crews. He joined the Painters Union of Peoria and stayed for a couple of years. Chris joined the Sun Construction team in 1996 and started out as a carpenter’s apprentice. Over the past twelve years with Sun he has progressed through all levels and is now working in project management. In the spring of 2007 Chris graduated from Colorado Christian University with a Bachelor’s degree in Christian Leadership and Management, a minor in Human Resources, and with a Certificate of Project Management. Chris is confident that his previous field and supervisory experience, and his formal education combined with the entire Sun Construction team will produce many fine projects for years to come.

Mark McMahon
Project Manager
Years of Experience: 30
Mark started as a carpenter for Sun Construction in 1987. He started doing superintendent work in 1992 and continued to do this work until 1999 at which point he started as the Project Manager for our Commercial Cabinet Shop. Since then he has taken on the duties of General Contracting Project Managing. Mark’s main client focus has been to Amgen Inc. but also does jobs for the City of Boulder and the City of Longmont.

Dennis L. Haney
Project Manager
Years of Experience: 35
Dennis has served as a senior landscape architect and project manager at the University of Colorado - Boulder campus for 20 years. He has prior work experience including three (3) years in private practice and two (2) years in the Peace Corps. Dennis has gained a wide variety of experience in building construction; renovation; planning; budgeting; specification writing; cost estimating; project management as well as landscape and irrigation design and construction. His experience, proven organizational skills and effectiveness contribute significantly to his projects’ success.

Joel Johnson
Project Manager
Years of Experience: 31
Before taking a Project Manager position, Joel held a Project Superintendent position with Sun Construction. He has been regularly involved in projects at Lexmark and the IBM Facility in Boulder for over 20 years. Joel has been involved in all phases of construction, including completing a $2 million chiller building addition. Joel started out working as a laborer/carpenter for his father in residential construction, was employed by a painting contractor for 2 years and then returned to commercial general contracting working his way up from a laborer to a Project Manager.

Tom Gilliland
Project Manager
Years of Experience: 33
Tom comes from the Project Control Group of Coors Brewing Company where he served as a project estimator for 15 years. He has estimated projects valued up to $20 million with an expertise in structural and mechanical construction. Tom is currently responsible for work throughout the northern metropolitan Denver area with projects ranging from renovations and additions to new facilities. Tom adheres to high safety standards as a result has been selected to work with companies that require the highest safety standards in the industry.

Jim Turner
Project Manager

Before taking over the Sun Construction Cabinet Shop in January 2006, Jim had been a field supervisor for Sun Construction since 2002. Jim has been involved in the building and construction trades since 1976. Prior to taking over as Project Manager for Sun, Jim owned his own building and maintenance company since 1994. Jim pays special attention to the finer details and ensures the job gets done in a cost efficient manner while maintaining quality.

Steve started in 1976 building homes as a laborer. Steve has held a variety of positions in the construction industry. Steve has been with Sun Construction for over 20 years. Since 1991 he has been servicing CU Boulder from carpenter to lead Supervisor and currently has the standing order Project Manager. Steve continues to expand his construction knowledge by participating in courses and training.
